Some bad news for the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday night when forward Sean Couturier was injured early in the second period of their game against the Florida Panthers.
Couturier needed assistance leaving the ice and heading down the tunnel to the locker room after he was involved in a collision that resulted in Panthers forward Vincent Trochek landing awkwardly on his left leg.
You can see the play in the video above.
The Flyers later announced that Couturier left the game with a “lower body injury” and that he will be evaluated further on Wednesday back in Philadelphia. Losing him for any period of time would be a pretty big blow to a Flyers team that is trying to overcome what has been a slow start to the season.
Even though he isn’t a huge offensive contributor (he has five goals and three assists in 19 games this season and has yet to top 40 points in any season in his career) he is a fantastic defensive forward and one of the best possession-driving forwards on the Flyers roster. He plays big minutes against other team’s top players and is one of their best two-way players.
The Flyers would go on to win the game, 3-1.
The Flyers selected him in the first round (No. 8 overall) of the 2011 NHL draft with a pick they acquired from the Columbus Blue Jackets in a trade for Jeff Carter.
