The San Jose Sharks loved what they saw out of ’15 first-round pick Timo Meier at training camp -- but that didn’t stop them from sending him to his Quebec League team in Halifax, apparently:

Update: The Sharks made it official.

Meier, the ninth overall pick at this year’s draft, impressed new San Jose bench boss Peter DeBoer as recently as Friday night, when he recorded a team-high five hits in an exhibition win over Arizona.

“For a kid he’s a powerful guy,” Pete DeBoer said, per CSN Bay Area. “To go on the ice and play a power game against these guys, some of them are 10-15 years older than him. That’s a pretty special quality.

“He’s just going to get better and better as he gets older and more mature.”

The Sharks dropped eight others players from camp on Monday, and waived veteran enforcer Frazer McLaren.
