Patrick Kane’s record points streak will go on.
Kane, who came into tonight’s action with at least a point in 23 straight games, made it 24 early in the third period against Nashville, scoring his 18th goal of the year to cut the Preds’ lead to 3-1.
The goal was initially challenged by Nashville head coach Peter Laviolette, citing possible goalie interference, but was upheld after video review.
The streak, with began on Oct. 17, extended his franchise record (Kane broke Bobby Hull’s record of 21 straight earlier this month) and put him within striking distance of the 25-game streak Sidney Crosby had during the 2010-11 campaign.
Kane is the fifth NHL player since 1990-91 to have a point streak of at least 24 games, joining Crosby, Mats Sundin (30 games, Quebec, ’92-93); Brett Hull (25, St. Louis, ’91-92); and Wayne Gretzky (25, Edmonton, ’90-91).
Gretzky holds the league’s all-time mark for longest scoring streak, going 51 consecutive games in ’83-84.
