China’s Liu, Lu medal in women’s 20km race walk; Mexico gets silver

China picked up two medals in the women’s race walk on Friday.

Hong Liu won gold in the 20km walk and Xiuzhi Lu took bronze, helping China medal for the third time in five races dating back to Sydney 2000.

Mexico’s Maria Guadalupe Gonzalez won silver, finishing just two seconds behind Liu and five ahead of Lu.

Americans Maria Michta-Coffey (22nd) and Miranda Melville (34th) finished more than five minutes off the pace.
