The U.S. men will be halfway through Olympic selection competition after the P&G Gymnastics Championships, live on NBC and NBC Sports Live Extra on Sunday.
Donnell Whittenburg, eyeing his first Olympics, leads the all-around after the first of two days of routines in Hartford, Conn., on Friday night. He’s .05 ahead of three-time reigning U.S. champion Sam Mikulak.
The next five gymnasts are within another point, making for a crowded leaderboard at the XL Center.
London Olympians Jacob Dalton, John Orozco and Danell Leyva are fourth, 11th and 12th, respectively. Full standings are here.
The five-man Rio roster will be announced after the Olympic Trials in three weeks in St. Louis, but the P&G Championships will play a large role in the selection committee’s Olympic team choices.
NBC coverage runs from 2-4 p.m. ET, while NBC Sports Live Extra will stream from 1-4.
