A broken collarbone will keep Columbus Blue Jackets forward Marian Gaborik from playing for the Slovakian men’s hockey team in Sochi.

Gaborik was a key player for Slovakia at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, where he helped the team finish fourth in the competition. But he will not be able to help this time around, as the Blue Jackets announced today that Gaborik was not medically cleared to participate in the Olympics.

He sustained his injury in a Dec. 21 game against the Philadelphia Flyers.

“I’m extremely disappointed that I won’t be able to play for Slovakia at the Olympic Games, but understand the decision is the right one for my recovery and for the national team,” he said in a Blue Jackets release. “I have been lucky and proud to represent my country at two Olympic Games and other international tournaments and look forward to doing so again in the future.”
