Missy Franklin plans to live and train in her native Colorado up to the World Championships in August, having recently returned to longtime coach Todd Schmitz after finishing her sophomore year at California.
The five-time 2012 Olympic medalist swam in NCAA competition for the last time in March, turned professional following that season and recently completed her spring class schedule at California.
Franklin’s coach and base after the World Championships are to be determined, according to the Denver Post. The 20-year-old trained under Teri McKeever at California after enrolling in August 2013. She trained under Schmitz since age 7 before that.
Franklin qualified to swim the 100m and 200m backstrokes and 100m and 200m freestyles at the World Championships in Kazan, Russia, in August. She could also be part of as many as five relays (three women’s, two mixed gender).
Franklin won the 100m back, 200m back and 200m free at the 2013 World Championships, where she became the first woman to capture six golds at a single Worlds.
She suffered a back injury before the Pan Pacific Championships in August, the major international meet of 2014, and took one individual medal there -- bronze in the 100m back.
Franklin is next expected to compete at a Pro Swim Series meet in Santa Clara, Calif., from June 18-21.
