Misty May-Treanor may be done playing competitive volleyball, but she’s staying very close to the sport.

The three-time Olympic beach volleyball champion was named a volunteer assistant coach with USC’s women’s sand volleyball team Tuesday.

“Misty has a great work ethic both on and off the court,” USC head coach Anna Collier said in a press release. “She will bring that same ethic to the team which will enable our student-athletes to see the kind of hard work it takes to become a top sand volleyball player.”

The NCAA only recently added sand volleyball. May-Treanor, 36, was a two-time AVCA Player of the Year at Long Beach State, leading the school as a setter to an undefeated season and NCAA title in 1998.

May-Treanor’s Olympic teammate, Kerri Walsh-Jennings, continues to play professionally. She has a new partner, 2012 Olympic silver medalist April Ross.
