The United States men’s water polo team was under the proverbial gun, and responded with its most complete performance of these Olympic Games.

Joshua Samuels powered the Americans to a 6-3 win over fellow winless side France on Wednesday, scoring three goals in the win.

The three goals allowed is the lowest of any single game in the tournament.

Jesse Smith, John Mann, and Luca Cupido also scored for Team USA, who lost its opening two matches in close fashion.

The Yanks held a 6-1 lead until late.

Next up: Montenegro on Friday and Italy on Sunday. The top four teams in each group advance to the knockout stage, which begins Tuesday.
