World Championships runner Cory McGee is among three finalists for the Sullivan Award announced Friday.

McGee, who ran in the 1500m heats at the 2013 World Championships in Moscow, joined Penn State football player John Urschel and Nebraska volleyball player Kelsey Robinson as finalists for the award that honors the nation’s outstanding amateur athlete for 2013.

The winner will be announced April 11 in Orlando, Fla.

McGee, 21, made the 2013 World Championships team coming back from a freak injury at the 2012 Olympic Trials. After she raced at the trials, she was at a restaurant when a nearby table said “cheers” and clanged their glasses a little too hard. One glass broke, and a shard from it gashed her ankle.

McGee missed the entire fall 2012 college cross-country season at the University of Florida.

The AAU has more bio information on the finalists here.

Olympic champions David Boudia and Katie Ledecky were among 19 nominees announced earlier this month, but they did not make the finalist cut.

Olympians or Paralympians won the Sullivan Award nine of the last 13 years, including swimmer Missy Franklin last year.
