Barring the biggest upset in the history of Olympic women’s hockey, the U.S. will get a chance for some revenge against Canada in the women’s gold medal game.

First things first, the United States avoided a repeat of what is the biggest upset in the sport, as they dominated Sweden 6-1 on Monday. Sweden surprised the U.S. via a shootout win back in 2002; since then, the U.S. beat Sweden in two straight semifinals games by a combined score of 15-2.

The contest was never in doubt as the U.S. took 41 of the game’s 43 shots and coasted after building a 5-0 lead. Jessie Vetter’s shutout was spoiled, but other than that, the United States was in high gear.

Canada must beat Switzerland in a noon ET semifinals game to clinch yet another title game between the two nations that tower over the rest of the world in women’s ice hockey. In the highly likely event that happens, the U.S. hopes to get some payback from Canada’s win from earlier in this tournament.
