Olympic figure skating champion Yuzuru Hanyu will be out one month following surgery for a bladder problem, according to Japanese reports.

“I have felt some pain since the Grand Prix Final [Dec. 12-13] and spoke to my doctor about it,” Hanyu said in a statement, according to the Japan Times. “I was advised to have an examination to determine the extent of the problem.”

If Hanyu follows his competition schedule from last season, he wouldn’t appear likely to miss any events. The World Championships in Shanghai in March may be his only competitive skate left this season.

In Shanghai, Hanyu would look to become the first Japanese skater to repeat as World champion. He is also the reigning Japanese national champion and Grand Prix Final champion, both from earlier this month.
