Rio Olympic officials said Tuesday that zero Zika virus cases were reported at the 44 test events for the Games, which included 17,000 combined athletes, volunteers and staff.
“Zika numbers started declining rapidly in April,” Rio 2016 chief medical officer Dr. João Grangeiro said.
The drop was expected as the Olympics near, and Brazil heads into its winter.
Last week, World Health Organization Director General Dr. Margaret Chan wrote in a letter that she would ask members of the Zika Emergency Committee to meet shortly to “examine the risks of holding” the Olympics as scheduled.
