NBA legend Patrick Ewing, who announced on Friday that he was battling COVID-19, was released from the hospital on Monday morning.
“My father is now home and getting better,” Ewing Jr. wrote on social media. “We’ll continue to watch his symptoms and follow the CDC guidelines. I hope everyone continues to stay safe and protect yourselves and your loved ones.” After retiring from the NBA, Ewing spent 15 years an assistant coach before landing the head coaching job for Georgetown in 2017.

  • Larry Brown is now talking about hiring Houston’s Patrick Ewing as an assistant coach for the Knicks.
He’s also reportedly interested in Micheal Ray Richardson as well, but we’ll have to see if Larry keeps his job as the coach of the Knicks before we’ll find out if he’s going to bring some leadership into the locker room.
  • Patrick Ewing recently turned down the head coaching job with the Knicks’ D-League affliliate, the Erie Bayhawks.
Ewing has been an assistant and/or ‘big man’ coach with the Magic, Rockets and Wizards, but he’s been turned down over and over for head coaching positions. Hope springs eternal, however, and Ewing clearly isn’t interested in leaving the NBA.
  • The Bobcats have hired Hall of Famer Patrick Ewing as their associate head coach.
Ewing was an assistant coach along with new Bobcats head coach Steve Clifford in both Houston and Orlando. He also has a relationship with owner Michael Jordan from their battles in the Knicks vs. Bulls rivalry of the 90s. Ewing will try to help develop a Bobcats’ undermanned front line that includes Bismack Biyombo, Josh McRoberts and Byron Mullens. Maybe one day he’ll land a head coaching job of his own.
  • Patrick Ewing could join the Bobcats coaching staff as an assistant under Steve Clifford.
Ewing has always been eyeing a head coach job, but it’s unclear if he wants to leave the Knicks at this time. He is a longtime friend of Michael Jordan, so that could play a role in his decision.
  • Patrick Ewing will interview for the lead assistant role on the Bobcats coaching staff.
Ewing said “Charlotte is a great city and I’m open-minded,” he said. “I have worked with Steve for many years in Houston and Orlando and I consider him a friend.” It doesn’t hurt that Ewing is also friendly with Michael Jordan, and it wouldn’t surprise us to see him in Charlotte before long.
  • Patrick Ewing has reportedly agreed to a multi-year deal to become the new head coach at Georgetown.
Good for him. The Hall of Famer has been trying to land a head coaching gig in the NBA for quite some time now, and now he’ll finally get that much-deserved opportunity at the place where he began his basketball career. He’ll reportedly start immediately, meaning Steve Clifford is now short one associate head coach in Charlotte.
  • Patrick Ewing is reportedly unlikely to secure the head coaching gig in Sacramento.
Ewing is scheduled for an interview with Sacramento, but according to sources of Brian Windhorst, the Kings might not even view him as a top-5 option for the job. “The people I’ve talked to aren’t sure that he completely is the head coaching material that people are looking for,” said Windhorst. “Other people who’ve worked with Patrick say he should’ve been a head coach years ago. But there’s a stigma out there that he is not quite the greatest fit for a head coaching job.”
  • Patrick Ewing interviewed with he Grizzlies on Thursday.
He is an assistant coach for the Hornets right now and did interview with the Kings before they hired Dave Joerger. Coach Steve Clifford seemed to count on Ewing more this season for insight on both ends of the ball. The Hall of Fame center also worked more with the big men.
  • Hornets assistant coach Patrick Ewing said he’d “love to go back to New York” in an interview with CBS Sports Radio.
“My family is still there, I still have a home there,” Ewing said. “I’m not sure what is going to happen in terms of who they’re going to have to fill that void but if I get a call, I’m ready.” The Knicks are not really close with any particular candidate to take their head-coaching position, but Ewing is probably not a top-five choice. On the other hand, the Knicks are expected to go after Derek Fisher.
