Simonson played 21 games with the Giants from 2018-2019, generally being utilized in a block-heavy role. Overall, the veteran TE has caught just 12 passes for 107 yards and one touchdown since entering the league in 2014.

Engram hasn’t played or practiced since spraining his foot in Week 9. With Rhett Ellison (concussion) also ruled out, Kaden Smith and Scott Simonson will head up New York’s tight-end corps Sunday in East Rutherford.

Even in a bleak tight end landscape, Smith and Simonson can both be ignored for streaming purposes. Engram hasn’t played or practiced since spraining his foot in Week 9.

Simonson spent time with the Giants this offseason before he injured his ankle in their preseason finale and was waived following an injury settlement. With Evan Engram (foot) and Rhett Ellison (concussion) dealing with injuries, Simonson could be asked to suit up immediately next to Kaden Smith.

Simonson suffered a high-ankle sprain in the preseason finale, and he’ll now miss the entire season. The run-blocking tight end wasn’t expected to catch many passes in 2019. Simonson will go to the injured reserve with teammates Jonathan Anderson (knee), George Asafo-Adjei (concussion), Brittan Golden (calf), and Rod Smith (adductor).

This is a multi-week injury and could affect Simonson’s roster spot as cuts need to be made Saturday. Simonson’s roster spot was already on shaky ground earlier this summer. He’s no more than the No. 3 tight end for the G-Men as a strict blocker.

There was some confusion here with reports surfacing that Simonson was released. Instead, he was re-signed after some wonky contract details were moved around. Simonson will remain a blocking tight end for the Giants.

Simonson was scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent. He will return to a blocking role in 2019.
