Morimando

This will be Morimando’s third stint with the CTBC Brothers after spending the summer pitching for the SSG Landers of the Korean Baseball Organization. The 30-year-old southpaw had a 2.56 ERA and 1.19 WHIP across 91 1/3 innings in the CPBL and a 1.67 ERA and 1.06 WHIP across 75 1/3 innings in the KBO.

Morimando made four relief appearances last year with the Marlins and was pitching for the CTBC Brothers of the Chinese Professional Baseball League this season.

Morimando latched on in the CPBL last October after making four major-league appearances with the Marlins during the 2021 campaign. The 29-year-old left-hander allowed 11 runs on 18 hits with a 9/5 K/BB ratio across 10 1/3 innings (four appearances, one start). He also logged 19 appearances (16 starts) at Triple-A Jacksonville before being released in early October. A minor-league journeyman at this stage of his career, he’ll look to build up his value overseas next year.

Morimando spent most of the season at Triple-A Jacksonville, but wound up allowing 11 runs on 18 hits with a 9/5 K/BB ratio across 10 1/3 innings (four appearances) at the big-league level with the Marlins. The 28-year-old lefty will search for a new opportunity in free agency.

Morimando cleared waivers after being designated for assignment. He’ll stick around in the organization.

It’s the second time in a little over a month that the left-hander has been designated for assignment by the Marlins. The left-hander will likely go unclaimed and report back to Jacksonville to provide depth.

This will be the third stint in the majors this season for Morimando. He’s made one good and one bad appearance.

Morimando was pushed off the 40-man roster on Friday but will remain a part of the Marlins’ organization for now. The 28-year-old southpaw had allowed four earned runs over 5 2/3 innings of relief this season with the Fish.

Morimando performed admirably on Friday night, tossing five scoreless innings in a bulk relief appearance against the division-rival Braves. Yet, the Marlins desperately needed to summon a fresh arm for their overtaxed bullpen, so he’ll be exposed to waivers. The 28-year-old southpaw will likely head back to Triple-A Jacksonville if he goes unclaimed.

Morimando came in after Anthony Bass pitched the first inning. The scoreless outing lowered his career ERA from 16.88 to 8.71; he had previously given up six runs in 4 2/3 innings for the Indians in 2016 and four runs in two-thirds of an inning for the Marlins this year.
