Ahead of England’s friendly with Spain, the squad has released Harry Kane to return to Tottenham training.

Kane missed seven weeks of Premier League action due to an ankle injury, only just returning to start the North London derby just before the international break, where he scored a penalty. However, he has hardly trained with Spurs since his return, and with only a friendly left on the schedule, the national team abided to club wishes.

According to a report in the Mirror, Kane’s departure was a “pre-arranged agreement” with Spurs.

The 23-year-old was a spectator as England picked apart Scotland in World Cup qualifying action, a 3-0 win that saw Daniel Sturridge start up front, with the Liverpool striker scoring the opener 23 minutes in. According to the Mirror report, part of the agreement was that Kane would not start against Scotland and would only play if necessary.

Kane will now have a full week to prepare with his club for the next Premier League match, a home date with West Ham on Saturday. The club will then have a quick turnaround as they travel to Monaco in Champions League play next Tuesday, a vital match against the Group E leaders with Spurs sitting outside a position of advancement.

While Tottenham enjoys the fruits of a positive relationship with the country’s national team, nearby rivals Arsenal have been struggling with the health of Alexis Sanchez which has sparked a bit of controversy between the club and Chilean national team.
