Russian striker Denis Cheryshev is the goal scorer, and picked up an unserved one-game tournament ban on loan last season. There’s also a claim that Borja Mayoral shouldn’t have been on the bench due to a red card in last year’s youth Copa del Rey final.
From Squawka.com:Last season, Cheryshev received three yellow cards in the competition whilst on loan at Villarreal, which resulted in a one-game ban.
However, it was not served in 2014/15, so carries over to this term.
Wow. And consider the precedent: Osasuna was bounced last season for the same crime. And as Squawka points out, this also happened to Benitez in 2001 with Valencia.Barcelona’s Gerard Pique is amused.
