Jack Wilshere returned to Arsenal’s first team squad last weekend for the 2-1 win over Crystal Palace but the England international has gone under the knife once again to sort out a long-term ankle injury.

Wilshere, 23, has been riddle by injury since bursting onto the scene as a teenager and the diminutive midfielder cannot shake off his latest injury after three months out. His latest knock occurred during Arsenal’s 2-1 defeat to Manchester United on Nov. 22 as Wilshere was clattered into on the edge of the box by Paddy McNair.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger confirmed that Wilshere will undergo a “minor procedure” which was schedule for the end of the season as he was feeling discomfort in his ankle.

The left ankle injury is just the latest in a long-line of ailments for the talented central midfielder, as Wilshere missed the entire 2011-12 campaign after undergoing foot surgery. During his recent spell out, the Arsenal academy product was pictured out partying and smoking a shisha pipe in a London nightclub as he’d been pictured smoking in public on two previous occasions.

Wilshere will not play for the Gunners this Sunday against Everton (Watch live, 8:30 a.m. ET on NBCSN and online via Live Extra) but is expected to be back in the next few weeks as his time on the sidelines continues to edge towards four months.
