Get your popcorn ready, this is about to get real.
Arsene Wenger and Jose Mourinho are now embroiled in a bitter feud, as the two Premier League title contenders clash on and off the pitch.
On Friday Wenger told the media that the PL title was “Chelsea’s to lose” and now Chelsea’s manager Mourinho has had the chance to hit back. The ‘Special One,’ in true Mourinho style, has struck back with a venomous barb when asked about Wenger’s claims that he has a “fear of failure” as Mourinho keeps playing down Chelsea’s title hopes.
“Arsene Wenger is a specialist in failure, I’m not,” Mourinho said. “If, supposing he is right that I am afraid to fail, it’s because I don’t fail too many times.”
Ouch.
The Portuguese boss is certainly not sharing the love on Valentines Day, as he responded to Wenger stating that Mourinho keeps playing down his own teams title hopes because they have a fear of failure. And when asked about it being Chelsea’s title to lose, something Wenger also said, Mourinho came up with the following answer.
“The champion is Man United so Man United is the title owner until the moment where they mathematically lose the title,” Mouirnho said. “Man United lose the title, nobody else.”
But Mou wasn’t done with his Wenger bashing there, oh no. There’s more.
“The reality is he’s [Wenger] a specialist because eight years without a piece of silverware, that is failure.”
With Chelsea one point and one place above Arsenal in the PL standings, Mourinho has often deflected the pressure away from his own team as he’s stated that first Manchester City were the favorites, and has now said that Liverpool have the edge in the title race due to the Reds not being involved in the UEFA Champions League.
More on this to come throughout the day, as the managers of London’s two biggest teams lock horns and reignite their long-term feud.
