After joining Hull City as caretaker boss in July, Mike Phelan was announced as the team’s permanent head coach on Thursday.

Phelan, who will be taking on his first permanent managerial job, spoke highly of the support from the club.

“The support I have received from everyone has been magnificent and I want that to continue because the challenges ahead are huge. The fans have been excellent through the last few months and the players have given me their full backing.”

Phelan was put into a tough situation when he was brought on as caretaker boss, coming into the club after the sudden departure of Steve Bruce just weeks before the start of the season. Despite this, the team opened the season with wins over Leicester and Swansea as Phelan won manager of the month in August.

Hull currently sits three points above the relegation zone. The team will face off with Bournemouth on Saturday in Phelan’s first match as permanent head coach.
