MLS Golden Boot winner and disgruntled striker Camilo Sanvezzo has officially flown the league coop.
In a bizarre saga that began with Sanvezzo posing for a photo in a Queretaro shirt, Sanvezzo has succeeded in forcing a transfer from the Vancouver Whitecaps to the Liga MX club.
Let’s face facts: the gritty, no-nonsense Robinson wasn’t going to work well with the sort of personality that would pull a stunt like Sanvezzo pulled Jan. 6 in Mexico, and the Whitecaps will be able to hunt for one or two able-bodied replacements with the transfer fee (figures thrown-about have included $2 million).
Still Sanvezzo produced mightily for the Whitecaps, even if the hat trick that earned him the Golden Boot came in a nothing match. The 25-year-old scored 39 goals and added 16 assists during 92 games with Vancouver.
