On a day when ex-striker Javier “Chicharito” scored a hat trick for Bayer Leverkusen, United couldn’t find enough goals to draw Bournemouth.
What else happened in the Premier League? Plenty!
Bournemouth 2-1 Manchester United -- RECAP
People are going to want to make this about Louis van Gaal due to the size of Manchester United, but ignore that for a second for this sentiment:
This is, without a doubt, the best time to be a Bournemouth fan in the history of the club.
With apologies to chairman Jeff Mostyn saving the club, and the Cherries’ promotion last year, Bournemouth has overcome a brutal set of injuries to knock off Chelsea and Manchester United in consecutive weeks. Junior Stanislas netted an Olimpico and ex-Man Utd youth Joshua King scored for the Cherries, while Marouane Fellaini was the star of the show for United with a goal and the majority of their shots before subbing off.
Everton 1-1 Norwich City -- RECAP
Wes Hoolahan scored a nice goal, and should’ve had the match-winning assist had Cameron Jerome not sent a world-class sitter over the frame, as the Canaries equalized after Romelu Lukaku had put Everton ahead. The hosts might have had six goals in the first half had they converted a series of golden opportunities.
Manchester City 2-1 Swansea City -- RECAP
Wilfried Bony stung his old team with an early goal, but there was late drama in store at the Etihad Stadium. Bafetimbi Gomis knocked on the door for much of the day before barging through in the 90th minute, but Yaya Toure quickly countered in stoppage time to send Man City back atop the table.
Sunderland 0-1 Watford -- RECAP
The Black Cats’ early smiles under Sam Allardyce have faded, and Quique Flores has his Hornets vying for a spot in the Top Five. Odion Ighalo continues to shine, scoring again for Watford.
Crystal Palace 1-0 Southampton -- RECAP
It’s hard to get a read on Saints, who helped Crystal Palace’s continued comparisons to, well, last year’s Saints. Yohan Cabaye had little work to do to tap a Yannick Bolasie offering past Paulo Gazzaniga, and Palace is sixth, one point ahead of Watford. Heady times in the table.
West Ham United 0-0 Stoke City -- RECAP
A match that can be summed up in two quick phrases:
- The Hammers are missing Dimitri Payet
- The Potters are giddy to have Jack Butland
