Premier League Roundup: Liverpool, Man United, Palace, Swansea win, Arsenal held

united

On a wild Tuesday night around the Premier League, we had plenty of drama with red cards, penalties, awful weather conditions and massive wins.

Nothing new here, right?

With plenty of goals flying in under the floodlights in packed out PL stadiums, we certainly had some memorable moments play out with Liverpool bagging a huge derby win, Manchester United back on track with Juan Mata shining on his debut and Arsenal held away at Southampton to leave the title race wide open.

For recaps, brief analysis and video highlights on all the games, look no further than this roundup as we tell you everything you need to know.

Let’s get to it.

Crystal Palace 1–0 Hull City

This was never going to be one for the purists, and it duly delivered in driving rain in South London. Palace got the win thanks to Jason Puncheon’s powerful first half goal, as the Eagles continue to soar up the league, while the Tigers tumble down the standings.

Liverpool 4-0 Everton

A superb display of clinical finishing clinched bragging rights on Merseyside for the Reds. An early goal from Steven Gerrard was added to by S.A.S. as Daniel Sturridge struck twice before half time and Luis Suarez bagged his 23rd of the season after the interval. The Toffees came unstuck in a big way at Anfield. Advantage Liverpool in the race for the top four.

Manchester United 2-0 Cardiff City

The Red Devils were back at it again, but came up against a spirited Cardiff side that scared them a little. New record-signing Juan Mata looked settled and Robin van Persie marked his return from injury with a goal. A few nervy moments were quelled by a second goal from Ashley Young, as United’s fans had something to cheer about.

Norwich 0-0 Newcastle

A bit of a bore draw at Carrow Road, but the Magpies were more likely to win it as they struck the woodwork on several occasions. It just wasn’t their night, as both teams were reduced to 10-men when Loic Remy and Bradley Johnson were sent off.

Southampton 2-2 Arsenal

The Saints tore Arsenal apart in the first half and led 1-0 after Jose Fonte’s header. But after the break two goals from Olivier Giroud and Santi Cazorla put the Gunners ahead... but their lead didn’t last long as Adam Lallana made it 2-2. Cracking game on the South Coast, and late on more drama arrived as Matheiu Flamini was shown a straight red. Gunners pinned back as a win for Man City tomorrow could see them slip to second.

Swansea 2-0 Fulham

A first win in nine for Swansea, and boy, did they need this. Jonjo Shelvey and Chico Flores got the goals as home fans at the Liberty Stadium breathed a huge sigh of relief. As for Fulham, things just keep getting worse for the Cottagers as they’re heavily entrenched in the relegation zone.
