In almost two full seasons with New York City FC, David Villa has not only established himself as the club’s best player (albeit the team’s short existence) but also one of Major League Soccer’s most important figures.

According to Sports Illustrated’s Grant Wahl, the former Spanish international is ready to continue his journey in New York City and extend his stay at Yankee Stadium.

Villa, 34, has notched 40 goals since joining NYCFC prior to the club’s 2015 inaugural season, and the forward told SI’s Planet Futbol Podcast that he is prepared to further his contract past its current expiration at the end of the 2017 MLS campaign.

Despite reportedly receiving interest from several top leagues in England, Spain, China, Russia and Turkey, Villa looks set to snub all of them in favor of MLS, which would certainly be a positive sign for the league.
