Real Madrid loves to break the world transfer record, and the UEFA Champions League winners are planning on doing it again.

Paul Pogba is the name this time around, as the French international could join Real’s magisterial attack.

It would take a monumental fee to snare Pogba from Juventus, but Real has shown a passion for showing its financial feathers via record-setting transfers for Luis Figo (2000), Zinedine Zidane (2001), Cristiano Ronaldo (2009) and Gareth Bale (2013).

So now Pogba? His agent says Real is one of three new sides in a four-team mix, via Sky Sports:

Raiola told Spanish paper Marca: “We are talking but nothing is decided. [Real coach] Zinedine Zidane’s wish is important. The club’s wish is important.

...

“He wouldn’t have a problem staying at Juventus,” Raiola said. “He is very happy there. Paul chooses his future as it’s the logical thing.”

That Real would buy Pogba is not a surprise but kickstarts the summer. What does this mean for Cristiano Ronaldo and James Rodriguez? The latter has committed his future to Real, but club boss Florentino Perez may have different plans. And Rodriguez, already perhaps likely to leave, feels as good as gone already if Pogba lands at the Bernabeu.

In any event, this could take a while. With Pogba under contract through 2019, the fee is just a precursor to a contract negotiation and more.
