According to a report by The Sun, a friend of Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling crashed the 20-year-old’s car, leaving it smashed at the scene for days.
The report states the expensive Mercedes coupe was found with both airbags deployed, and littered with nitrous oxide canisters, the same substance Sterling was scolded by Brendan Rodgers for using back in April to get a cheap high out of a balloon.

According to the source quoted in the report, Sterling was in Manchester with his club when the crash occurred on a London street. “Raheem wasn’t in the car at the time, he was training in Manchester. It looks like he lent it to a mate,” the source said. “Raheem needs to think about whether he’s hanging around with the right kind of people, especially as he is such a high-profile star.”

Rodgers, Sterling’s manager at Liverpool the previous two seasons, told the England winger he should keep away from things like nitrous oxide - otherwise known as “laughing gas” - to focus on his career and maintain a positive image. “For me, it is something that when you are a professional sportsperson at the top, I don’t think it is something you should be doing.
Sterling’s agent Aidy Ward confirmed that the player was not in the car at the time of the crash.
