In the 18th minute of NWSL’s season opener, Washington Spirit and USWNT defender Ali Krieger was taken off the field via a stretcher when she collided with Houston Dash forward Jessica McDonald--both attempting to control a cross into the box.

She gave a wave to fans while exiting BBVA Compass Stadium and is supposedly doing well in the hospital, based on tweets from Washington Post soccer insider Steven Goff.

Former Kansas defender Estelle Johnson replaced Krieger, who has made 63 appearances for the USWNT since 2008.

Houston won the game, 2-0. Carli Lloyd scored a stunning goal and Kealia Ohai added another.
