Cubs sent INF Trent Giambrone outright to Triple-A Iowa.
Giambrone has been removed from the Cubs’ 40-man roster, but doesn’t have the option to elect free agency since it’s the first time he’s been optioned to the minors. The 27-year-old appeared in five games for the Cubs last season and spent the majority of the season at Triple-A Iowa.
