BETS

  • John Tortorella‘s Philadelphia Flyers remain unbeaten after rallying from a 2-0 deficit to defeat the Tampa Bay Lightning last night by a final score of 3-2, but the method to the madness at this point seems unsustainable. Philly has been dominated when playing 5-on-5 (39.1% Corsi for; second worst in the league), but they’ve gotten outstanding goaltending from Carter Hart (3-0-0, .943 save percentage against 105 shot attempts) and they’ve cashed in some timely power play opportunities (3-for-10 on the season). Playing the second half of back-to-backs tonight in Sunrise against the Panthers, it would seem likely that Felix Sandstrom will get the call in goal against a Florida squad that still owns one of the most dangerous offensive units in all of hockey. Whether Philadelphia can remain unbeaten remains to be seen, but I’m expecting a high-scoring affair in tonight’s contest.
  • Colorado took care of business against Minnesota on Monday night, prevailing in a scrappy game by a final score of 6-3. Alexander Georgiev made some timely saves, but he also got lucky on more than one occasion throughout the course of the game. Now, heading home to take on a Winnipeg Jets team that enters on the heels of a 4-1 drubbing at the hands of the Dallas Stars, I’m expecting another relatively high-scoring game. Each of the Avalanche’s three games to this point have cleared the 6.5 total goals mark, largely due to their inability to kill off opponents’ power play chances. The Avs have a league-worst 50% penalty killing mark, a number that is sure to improve as the season progresses: for the time being, though? It’s something the Jets can take advantage of, leading me to believe this game should go over 6.5 total goals. When push comes to shove, however, I think Colorado has too much firepower for Winnipeg to handle, and their puck line odds of +115 are worth a look (along with the over).

THE PLAYS:

  • PHILADELPHIA FLYERS at FLORIDA PANTHERS – Over 6.5 Goals (-110)
  • WINNIPEG JETS at COLORADO AVALANCHE – Avalanche -1.5 (+115)
  • WINNIPEG JETS at COLORADO AVALANCHE – Over 6.5 Goals (-115)
