After adding ex-A&M OC, Sonny Dykes brings ex-Aggie lineman to Cal as well

Back in February, Sonny Dykes announced the addition of former Texas A&M offensive coordinator Jake Spavital to his Cal coaching staff. A month later, one of Spavital’s former players in College Station is reuniting with the coordinator.

Jeremiah Stuckey, the school has announced, has signed a financial aid agreement to join the Cal football program after deciding to transfer from A&M earlier this year. Because Stuckey is coming in as a graduate transfer, he’ll be eligible to compete immediately in 2016, his final year of eligibility.

This move serves as a homecoming for Stuckey as the offensive lineman played his high school football in California and began his collegiate career at the junior college level in the same state before signing with A&M in the Class of 2013.

“Having been raised in the Bay Area, I am excited to finish my collegiate career in front of friends and family,” Stuckey said in his statement. “I am also looking forward to earning master’s degree at Cal.”

“Jeremiah is coming home for his final collegiate season and we’re excited he is going to do that at Cal,” Dykes said. “He was a very heavily recruited offensive lineman coming out of San Francisco City College when he signed at Texas A&M and with his level of experience we’re looking forward to him competing for a starting job right away. I know he’s also excited to get a master’s degree from Cal. ...

“Jeremiah has experience being a part of winning football programs everywhere he has been and that is important to us. We want to make an emphasis on recruiting winners and guys that understand the team dynamic and make that important to them.”

After redshirting his first season with the Aggies, Stuckey played in 14 games the past two years. He started five of those contests, with all of those coming in 2015 at left guard in the first half of the season.

Stuckey will be expected to stake his claim to a starting job somewhere along the Golden Bears’ line.
