Arkansas State will play in the GoDaddy.com Bowl for the third straight year, the Mobile, Ala.-based bowl announced Monday. The Red Wolves will face a to-be-announced MAC team -- so hey, what better way to warm up for the Jan. 6 BCS Championship with a little #MACTion?
Under its third coach in three years, Arkansas State went 7-5, 5-2 in the Sun Belt. Of course, coach Bryan Harsin’s predecessors were Gus Malzahn (2012) and Hugh Freeze (2011), both of whom led Arkansas State to 10-win season before departing for the SEC.
For what it’s worth, Arkansas State played both the participants in the SEC Championship, losing 38-9 to Auburn and 41-19 to Mizzou. Both those games came in September, when nobody had an idea Auburn and Mizzou would play for an SEC title in a top-five matchup.
Arkansas State earned the GoDaddy Bowl bid over Western Kentucky, which beat the Red Wolves and has a better record at 8-4. Welcome back, bowl politics.
