Baylor: ‘No vote regarding the employment status of Art Briles’

Much ado about nothing?

After Monday saw reports that Art Briles’ time as coach of the Baylor football program might not be over after all, it appears he is no closer to returning than he was prior to a meeting of the Baylor Board of Regents.

Via email, school spokesperson Tonya Lewis told the Austin American-Statesman there was no vote in regards to his status.

“As has been reported, the Baylor Board of Regents did meet last night to discuss a variety of matters. We can confirm, there was no vote regarding the employment status of Art Briles.”

Briles was suspended “with intent to terminate” in May after a report by an outside firm found he “failed to take appropriate action to reports of sexual assault and dating violence” involving the football team.

He subsequently acknowledged, “I have certainly made mistakes and, in hindsight, I would have done certain things differently.”

Former Wake Forest and Ohio University coach Jim Grobe has been named as Briles’ replacement for the upcoming season.
