Mizzou may be on a bye this weekend, but its path to Atlanta could become clear.
Georgia has a tough task, needing a win at Auburn to remain in the SEC East title hunt. Mizzou fans should be rooting for the Bulldogs to pull off the upset, since if Mizzou, Georgia and South Carolina all finish 6-2 in the SEC, Mizzou will win the East.
South Carolina welcomes Florida to Columbia on Saturday, too, and a win coupled with a Georgia loss would put the heat on Mizzou to beat both Ole Miss and Texas A&M to finish the season. If the banged-up Gators somehow pull out of their tailspin and beat South Carolina, it’d allow Mizzou to go 1-1 and make the SEC title game.
The St. Louis Post Dispatch’s Dave Matter ran down all the possible SEC East scenarios, and obviously if Mizzou wins out they’ll win the East with a 7-1 conference record. But winning at Ole Miss and beating Texas A&M in back-to-back weeks may be a tall order.
The good (or bad) news is Mizzou will know what it has to do by Saturday night to earn a berth in the SEC title game.
