Burst bursa sac at root of Budmayr’s arm issues

Even as we all know there really is no battle for the starting quarterback job at Wisconsin, the coach-created competition could’ve officially run its course with the injury news at the position coming out of Wisconsin earlier this week.

As it turns out, that’s not the case and the battle will resume in short order. Even as we all know there’s really no battle in the first place.

Instead of a significant tendon or ligament damage in his throwing arm as initially feared, x-rays Thursday showed that Jon Budmayr is merely suffering from a burst bursa sac in the elbow. If all goes well, which means the swelling in the joint subsides significantly, Budmayr should be able to return to practice early next week.

Russell Wilson, the North Carolina State transfer who everybody but the UW coaching staff has written into the starting lineup in permanent marker, has worked with the first-team offense for the majority of summer camp, with Budmayr all but officially settled in as the Badgers’ No. 2 quarterback. Redshirt freshman Joe Brennan has been working with the second-team offense in Budmayr’s absence, and will presumably resume the fight for the backup job upon his competition’s return from injury.

And after Budmayr and Wilson finish battling for the starting job, of course.
