Syracuse’s season of personnel attrition continued this morning as the school announced they have lost linebacker Derrell Smith for the final two games of 2009.
According to a press release, Smith reported some soreness in his left knee after the Akron game on Oct. 24, and a subsequent MRI revealed a tear in his lateral meniscus.
Following the contest at Louisville this past Saturday, Smith reported increased soreness in his left knee prohibiting further activity. It was determined that surgery would be required in the near future, and that the rehab would sideline the LB for the remainder of the season.
Smith leads the Orange with 8.2 tackles per game, which is good for sixth in the Big East.
