Despite stress fracture, Cyrus Gray not ruled out for A&M vs. Texas

Two days after injuring his shoulder in Texas A&M’s drubbing of Kansas, the question of whether Cyrus Gray will or won’t be available Thursday remains unanswered.

In his weekly talk with the media Monday, head coach Mike Sherman confirmed the running back has a stress fracture in his shoulder. From the sound of it, Gray will be a game-time decision for what could be the final A&M-Texas grudge match for at least the next several years.

“We’ll see where he is in the next couple of days and if it gets better, he’ll play,” Sherman said. “We don’t want to put him in a position where we jeopardize (his health).”

Gray currently leads the Aggies with 1,045 yards and 12 rushing touchdowns. A&M has already lost Christine Michael, who was leading the team in rushing at the time, to a season-ending knee injury earlier this month.

If Gray is unable to go against the Longhorns, and as noted by the San Antonio Express-News, the Aggies will be down to two scholarship running backs -- sophomore Ben Malena and freshman Will Randolph.
