Ex-Gamecock CB Wesley Green transfers to Hoosiers

After beginning his career in the SEC, Wesley Green will continue it in the Big Ten.

Indiana announced in a press release Monday afternoon that Green has transferred into the university and is now a member of the Hoosiers football program. It was announced earlier this month that it was “mutually decided” that Green and South Carolina had decided to part ways for unspecified reasons.

Green will be forced to sit out the 2015 season to satisfy NCAA transfer rules. Beginning in 2013, the defensive back will have three seasons of eligibility remaining.

“We recruited Wesley; [secondary c]oach Brandon Shelby has a strong relationship with him and he contacted us when he left South Carolina,” head coach Kevin Wilson said in a statement. “We welcome him to our program. He’s a talented young man and he will be a quality contributor.”

A four-star member of USC’s 2014 recruiting class, Green was rated as the No. 17 cornerback in the country; the No. 17 player at any position in the state of Georgia; and the No. 208 player overall by Rivals.com. After some initial eligibility concerns, Green took a redshirt his true freshman season with the Gamecocks.

He had entered summer camp No. 2 on the depth chart before deciding to transfer out.
