Houston defensive end Zeke Riser decided he would transfer from the Cougars earlier this year. Though it never became official, Riser’s transfer destination was believed to be Texas.
“190 miles or 70? Think about it… #FamilyOverEverything,” Riser tweeted in early February.
Things apparently changed and talks with the Longhorns fell through. Multiple outlets are now reporting Riser is in the final stages of signing a grant-in-aid with Maryland, where he would be reunited with former Houston DC Brian Stewart. The paperwork hasn’t been completed, however, and there’s been no official word on the reported addition. If/when that does become official, Riser will be eligible to play immediately as he’s already graduated from UH.
As a true freshman in 2009, Riser started all 14 games for the Cougars. A knee injury sidelined him from all of the 2010 season, but he came back to start 13 games the past two seasons. Nine of those starts came in 2012 as a redshirt junior. He should be a sight for sore eyes along Maryland’s defensive front, which lost Joe Vellano and A.J. Francis to the NFL, and Justin Anderson to transfer.
