According to a report by the Associated Press, longtime University of Florida Steve Babik has been hit with federal charges related to having child pornography on his home computer.
The U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Florida announced that Babik has been charged with one count of receipt and distribution of child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography.
The Palm Beach Post reports that Babik is charged with knowingly receiving, possessing and distributing “materials depicting minors engaged in sexually explicit content” several times between Nov. 2 and Nov. 30.
Babik has pleaded not guilty to both charges, and was released from custody with restrictions.
Needless to say, Babik has been fired from his position by the school.
“We were made aware of the investigation in late November and immediately suspended Steve Babik from his work responsibilities,” UF said in a statement. “Now that he has been charged, his employment has been terminated. We are deeply disturbed by the charges.”
