Everybody knew Florida Gators running back Jeff Demps could fly. I don’t think anybody knew he could run this fast.
At the Florida Relays in Gainesville, the junior running back clocked a 10.11 second 100-meters, good for the fastest time in the world this year, ahead of Jamaica’s Nesta Carter who clocked a 10.15 back in January.
“We know Jeff is an incredible athlete so it doesn’t surprise me that he ran that fast,” Florida track coach Mike Holloway said. “Jeff will tell you he did some things wrong. We expect him to run a lot faster than that this year.”
Demps looks to carry the load for the Gators running attack next season, but took the Spring off from football to concentrate on sprinting. Demps has long been considered a world-class sprinter, and his performance today solidifies that point.
As a sophomore, Demps ran for 763 yards last year and scored seven touchdowns. He’s scored 14 in his two seasons in Gainesville.
