Georgia Tech and Ole Miss were SEC bunk maters from 1932 to 1964, but somehow have played only once in the regular season - a 24-7 Ramblin’ Wreck win in 1946. Their only other three meetings have come in bowl games, most recently a 25-17 Ole Miss win in the Music City Bowl at the close of last season.
The two are scheduled to meet again, but regular season games two and three will have to wait. Georgia Tech announced Monday it has pushed back games scheduled for 2017-18 to 2022-23 so the Yellow Jackets could “schedule other ‘Power 5' opponents those seasons.” The 2022 game will take place in Atlanta, while the 2023 tilt will be held in Oxford.
Scheduling database site FBSchedules.com does not list any early-season Power Five opponents for the Yellow Jackets in those season. Georgia Tech, of course, faces Georgia annually, and thus is in no danger of violating the ACC’s requirement of facing at least one Power Five opponent per season.
Ole Miss, on the other hand, is now officially in scheduling scramble mode. The Rebels do not have a Power Five non-conference opponent - which the SEC also requires - on the schedule until 2022’s visit to Bobby Dodd Stadium. The new policy goes into effect in 2016.
Georgia Tech also announced home games against Alcorn State on Thursday, Sept. 3, 2015 and against new football program Kennesaw State on Sept. 5, 2021.
