A year after moving from one position to another, Chris Streveler is moving on from Minnesota.
Following up on speculation that’s been building for a couple of weeks, Streveler confirmed to the St. Paul Pioneer Press that he has been granted a release from his scholarship and will transfer out of the Gophers program. As Streveler will graduate from the university next month, he’ll be eligible to play immediately in 2016 if he ends up at another FBS program.
Not only that, but Streveler will have two seasons of eligibility remaining.
As for his decision to leave, it was based on his positioning on the post-spring depth chart.
“The coaches at Minnesota have been awesome and said they would be willing to help me find another school,” Streveler told the Pioneer Press. “It’s easier that there is no hard feelings on either end. ...
“I tried everything; the coaches tried everything. I leave with no regrets. I just wanted to play and help the team.”Thank you to everyone. Teammates, coaches, fans. pic.twitter.com/Zf4FM1Cu3T

Streveler began his time with the Gophers as a quarterback, playing in five games during the 2014 season, starting one of those contests. He ran for 161 yards in that start, the third-most for a quarterback in the team’s history.
The paper writes that, "[i]n 2015, he switched to the hybrid running back-tight end position and then to wide receiver.” Streveler accounted for 12 yards of offense last season -- eight on four carries, four on one reception.
