Hawaii promotes Jordan Wynn to QBs coach, hires Kurt Gouveia to coach OLBs

Hawaii head coach Norm Chow on Monday announced the hiring of NFL veteran Kurt Gouveia as outside linebackers coach and the promotion of former Utah quarterback Jordan Wynn from graduate assistant to quarterbacks coach.

“I’m awfully excited that Kurt and Jordan are now apart of our full-time staff,” Chow said. “Jordan was put into a very unusual circumstance last year as a graduate assistant and he responded like an experienced coach. Kurt has a tremendous history with the state as both a player and coach and the experience he has gained at the highest level will no doubt help our defensive staff.”

Wynn will continue to work with the quarterbacks and assist Chow with play-calling duties. He joined the UH staff last season after his playing career at Utah was cut short by a chronic shoulder injury.

Gouveia spent 13 seasons in the NFL and won two Super Bowls with the Washington Redskins. He was a high school assistant and an assistant in NFL Europe and the United Football League before coming to UH.

Both Wynn and Gouveia will need to do a spectacular job to help Hawaii improve in 2014. The Warriors finished 1-11, with their only win coming against Army.
