Hurt hip for hero, heart attack part of the aftermath of wild Spartans win

Michigan State’s wild, no-time-left-on-the-clock win over Michigan was painful for the majority of those in attendance in Ann Arbor. For two individuals in particular, including one of the major players in the soap opera-like finish, the pain was quite literal.

Jalen Watts-Jackson is the Spartan who recovered a botched Wolverine attempt at a punt and returned it 38 yards for the game-winning score in MSU’s dramatic 27-23 win. Unbeknownst to most at the time, Watts-Jackson sustained a hip injury in the aftermath of the celebration.

Specifically, Watts-Jackson dislocated a hip, and was transported to a local hospital after being taken off the field on a backboard. It’s believed Watts-Jackson was inadvertently injured when his teammates piled on top of him in the end zone.

Additionally, and potentially more tragically, a fan in the stands of the Big House suffered a heart attack very shortly after the play and bedlam ensued. Mlive.com wrote that “EMS responded quickly and began to perform CPR on the person in the stands.”

The unnamed fan was taken to a local hospital via ambulance. There’s no word on his/her condition.
