In case you’re wondering: Arkansas ‘hearts’ the SEC

From the “Where in the Hell Did This Come From?” department comes a statement released by Arkansas this afternoon in which the school commits its unwavering support for SEC membership.

Sure, there have been a few rumors here or there that the Razorbacks might be a candidate to move to the Big 12, but nothing we’ve seen that’s had much of any real substance to it. For the love of Stephen Garcia, one source of the rumors was South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier, and that was way back in late April.

Still, nearly two months after the rumors had all but died out and been shot down once, the Razorbacks felt strongly enough to release a statement because well, they can, we guess. Here’s the statement from the school:

“In recent weeks and months there has been much national dialogue regarding conference affiliation in intercollegiate athletics. In the course of that dialogue some have suggested that the University of Arkansas was an institution that may be pursued by other conferences. From the beginning, we have been very clear that the University of Arkansas is a proud member of the Southeastern Conference and has no interest in joining another conference. Chancellor Gearhart has been unwavering in his support of our institution’s continued membership in the SEC. Recent events have not in any way altered our commitment or desire to remain a member of what we believe is the strongest conference in the nation.”

Honestly, who would willingly leave the SEC and the piles of money each member school sleeps on every single night?

Then again, Jerry Jones is a former football player and alum of the school...
