Inaugural Boca Raton Bowl to kick off December 23

The inaugural Boca Raton Bowl will kick off on December 23 at 6 p.m. eastern to a national television audience on ESPN. The brand new bowl game will be played at FAU Stadium, home of Florida Atlantic and will feature teams from Conference USA and the MAC in 2014, but the bowl game also has a partnership with the American Athletic Conference as well.

“There is a high level of excitement for the new Boca Raton Bowl,” said Doug Mosley, Boca Raton Bowl, executive director in a released statement shared by ESPN. “We have a beautiful venue in FAU Stadium and a very engaged community in Palm Beach County.”

ESPN owns the Boca Raton Bowl, which means the game will be given an exclusive time slot with as little competition as possible. December 23 falls on a Tuesday, two days before Christmas, so the game will have virtually no competition from other sports, most notably the NFL or other bowl games.

FAU Stadium opened in 2011 and has a seating capacity of 29,419.

Earlier in the day the St. Petersburg Bowl was scheduled for December 26. The Boca Raton Bowl is not the only new bowl game this season though. The Bahamas Bowl will be played on December 24.
