Nike announces ten teams to adorn Pro Combat unis in 2010

Nike has announced ten schools who will wear an alternate Pro Combat uniform for at least one game in 2010. West Virginia, Virginia Tech, Pittsburgh, Florida, Miami, Ohio State, Boise State, TCU, Oregon State and, that’s right, Alabama will adorn the uniforms some time this season.

The unveiling of the new uniforms will be made on Sept. 1.

Virginia Tech, Florida, Miami, Ohio State, and TCU wore Nike Pro Combat uniforms in 2009. The uniforms are engineered to provide superior protection, durability and are more light-weight.

Never one to deviate too far from tradition, Alabama’s pro combat uniforms will be conservative by comparison. “Alabama officials were and are deeply committed to maintaining the look of the uniform,"a source told TideSports.com.

But this got us to thinking. Ever since Oregon turned the uniform world upside down in 384 different ways in 2006, alternate uniforms have become a big part of college football.
