So the family is gathered to watch the Gator Bowl with two other televisions tuned to other games.
And on one screen it looked like NFL Network is replaying the Dolphins-Steelers Monday night game from November 2007.
But it’s actually the Capital One bowl, from rainy Orlando.
The field conditions are disgraceful, with plenty of standing water and dislodged turf.
We assume that the folks at Captial One aren’t plunking down millions to be associated with an operation that can’t figure out how to take care of a football field.
So the folks in Orlando should be given a choice -- spend the money to ensure that the playing surface will be able to perform when it rains, install FieldTurf, or lose the game.
UPDATE: Apparently, the folks in Orlando are installing FieldTurf after the season. It doesn’t change the fact that, for today, the condition of the field is an embarrassment. And please spare us the “I like football when uniforms are dirty” routine. When the footing is horrendous, player skills are undermined -- and the risk of injury spikes.
