In December of 2006, while still roaming the sidelines at West Virginia, Rich Rodriguez came thiiis close to becoming Mike Shula‘s replacement as the head coach at Alabama.
(We’ll allow the Tide fans a moment to breathe a huge sigh of relief... waiting... waiting... and we’re good.)
Nearly four years later, Rodriguez and ‘Bama are connected again.
According to a report on the outstanding Wolverines website MGoBlog.com, a contract will be signed Monday for an Alabama-Michigan game at Dallas Cowboys Stadium to open the 2012 season.
A source told the site that the “game is happening because a desperate Jerry Jones ‘overpaid’” and Michigan would be the “home” team, thus receiving more money than the Tide.
Of course, and provided the game goes off as reported, it remains to be seen if this Rodriguez-Tide storyline will actually be in play as there’s no guarantee RichRod will be the Wolverines’ coach in 2011, let alone when the game rolls around in 2012.
